Manchester National Trust Volunteers

We first put Calke Abbey back on the weekend schedule In 2019 when we headed to Calke Abbey near Derby for our annual Christmas Weekend and we have returned there pretty much every year since either in the summer or winter. This year it's Summer and Ranger Vicky and her team are very much looking forward to seeing us. The House at Calke Abbey is not your average National Trust property it's paintwork is faded and peeling and vast collections of personal belongings are left as they were found. Although we won't be working in the house it has a vast park and it's here will be working. Last time we were there our task was thinning out trees and making a dead fence this years task? Well this year the plan is to do some bracken bashing, which is always good fun.

We will be staying at Home Farm Bunkhouse, Ticknell on the estate at Calke Abbey. The Basecamp holds 14 people and in the evenings should we wish we get the parkland to ourselves so there could be time for a game of Hide and Seek or getting up close and personal with the wildlife as we will be sharing the estate with; bats, badgers, and deer. 

Friday day night we plan to eat at the local watering hole which has excellent pizzas.

On Saturday night there will be a home cooked meal at the basecamp followed by a walk on estate perhaps or chance to catch up with each other without the bracken putting you off.

Please bring your own bedding, your usual work clothes and perhaps something a little special to wear on Saturday night

The price for this weekend will be £25 and will run from Friday until Monday morning so feel free to make a weekend of it.
