Formby Sands

Below are details of the worksite – but please check the weekly email as these may vary.

Wide Open Beaches and Sandy woodland. This ever changing sandy part of the English coastline lies between the Irish Sea and Formby town centre. Whilst there, you may be lucky enough to glimpse a red squirrel or two or, due to erosion see the historic landscape once levelled for asparagus.

We have done several tasks here, clearing sand from Board Walks to allow wheelchair access, Path Work, Wood store building, Ragwort pulling, and even building large Viking Runes out of wood as part of an Art installation, and even making Pizza’s in the pizza oven. We often meet up with the Mersey NT Volunteer group

 
 
Location:

There are several possible meeting points in the area.

If Parking at the Countryside Office L37 1PH drive along Blundell Road, ignore the “No Parking Beyond this point” sign. The Countryside office is down the Road on the right.

If Parking in Lifeboat Road carpark L37 2EB this is public Parking, so you will need to Display Parking Ticket, membership/Volunteer Card / Carpark Pass or a Note to say Volunteering.

Public Transport:

There is a train station in Formby, it may be possible to get a train there by 10am on a Sunday. If you want a lift from there let the Leader know in advance.

Car Sharing Meeting Point:

Quarry Bank Mill volunteers Carpark at 8:45 to be at Formby by 10 am start. Let the leader know in advance and they can let you know if there is anyone to carshare with. 

Facilities:

Facilities vary depending on the part of the site we are working at, there are toilets at the countryside office and at the Carpark at Victoria Road and Lifeboat Road.

As with most sites you may be working several minutes’ walk from the carpark.
